Abū Bakr al-Ṣiddīq
Abū Bakr · al-Ṣiddīq (the Truthful), ʿAtīq, Khalīfat Rasūl Allāh (Successor to the Messenger of God)
First Rashidun caliph (11-13 AH / 632-634 CE). Closest companion of the Prophet ﷺ — "the Companion in the Cave" (Q 9:40 — the Prophet's sole human companion during the Hijra). The first free male to embrace Islam. Father of ʿĀʾisha bint Abī Bakr (Mother of the Believers). Title "al-Ṣiddīq" ("the Truthful") given by the Prophet ﷺ for his unhesitating belief in the Isrāʾ wal-Miʿrāj. As caliph, fought the Ridda Wars (apostasy wars) which preserved the unity of the Muslim community after the Prophet's ﷺ death; commissioned the first compilation of the Qurʾān after the deaths of so many ḥuffāẓ at Yamāma. Buried beside the Prophet ﷺ in ʿĀʾisha's chamber in Medina. Genealogy meets the Prophet at Murra ibn Kaʿb (8 generations back).
