Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah was a prominent 9th-century Muslim jurist and hadith scholar from Kufa, renowned for his extensive hadith compilations and reliability.
Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah was born in 159H (775 CE) in Kufa, Iraq, belonging to the al-Abs tribe. He was a leading hadith scholar and jurist of the third generation of hadith transmitters. He authored major works including the Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah, one of the earliest and largest hadith compilations. He studied under notable scholars such as Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah and 'Abd Allah ibn Al-Mubarak, and taught eminent hadith masters like Al-Bukhari and Muslim. He was highly regarded for his precision, memorisation, and reliability in narration. Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah died in 235H (849 CE) at the age of 76.
