Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah was a prominent 4th generation hadith scholar and jurist from Kufa, known for compiling one of the earliest and largest hadith collections.

Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah was born in 159 AH (775 CE) in Kufa, Iraq. He belonged to the al-Abs tribe and was a leading Muslim jurist and hadith scholar of his time. He authored significant works including the Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah and Al-Musnad, which are among the earliest extant hadith compilations. He studied under renowned scholars such as Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah and 'Abd Allah ibn Al-Mubarak, and taught eminent later scholars including Al-Bukhari and Muslim. He was highly praised by contemporaries like Ahmad ibn Hanbal and Yahya ibn Ma'in for his expertise in hadith presentation. Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah died in 235 AH (849 CE) at the age of 76.
