Adnanite Arabs
العرب العدنانية
Hejaz, Najd, North Arabia
Descendants of ʿAdnān, traditionally traced through Ismāʿīl ibn Ibrāhīm. The northern Arab confederation, in contradistinction to the Qaḥṭānite (southern) Arabs.
Maʿadd ibn ʿAdnān
20th paternal grandfather of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ. Father of Nizār.
Nizār ibn Maʿadd
19th paternal grandfather of the Prophet ﷺ. His sons founded the major north-Arabian confederations: Muḍar, Rabīʿa, Anmār, Iyād.
ʿAdnān
Eponymous ancestor of the Adnanite Arabs and direct paternal ancestor of the Prophet Muhammad ﷺ in the 21st generation. Beyond ʿAdnān the chain to Ismāʿīl is contested in classical Islamic genealogy; the Prophet ﷺ said: "When the genealogists reach ʿAdnān they should stop" (according to one report). All Sunni schools agree the chain Muhammad → ʿAdnān is preserved with high reliability.
