Muḥammad ibn Hibbān al-Bustī was a 9th-10th century Muslim Arab scholar and hadith expert from Bust, known for his prolific writings and critical evaluation of hadith.

Muḥammad ibn Hibbān al-Bustī was born in 884 CE in Bust (present-day Lashkargah, Afghanistan) and belonged to the Arab community in that region. He was a prominent Shafi'i traditionist and polymath, excelling in hadith criticism, jurisprudence, and various sciences including astronomy and medicine. Ibn Hibbān travelled extensively for knowledge, studying under many renowned scholars across the Islamic world. He served as a judge in Samarkand and later established a madrasah in his hometown. His students included leading scholars such as Al-Hakim al-Nishapuri and Al-Daraqutni. He died in 965 CE in Bust and was buried there. His theological views sometimes brought him into conflict with Hanbali scholars.
