الزُّبَيْر بْن الْعَوَّام بْن خُوَيْلِد الأَسَدِيّ
594 CE – 656 CE(aged ~62) Quraysh

Al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam was a prominent early Muslim commander and companion of the Prophet Muhammad, known for his military leadership in key battles and early Islamic conquests.

Al-Zubayr ibn al-Awwam belonged to the Quraysh tribe, specifically the Banu Asad clan, and lived during the early Islamic era. He was a first cousin and brother-in-law of the Prophet Muhammad, having converted to Islam at a young age. Zubayr played a crucial role as a commander in major battles such as Badr, Uhud, and the Battle of the Trench, earning the title Hawari Rasul Allah. He participated in the Ridda Wars and the early Muslim conquests under caliphs Abu Bakr and Umar. After the assassination of Caliph Uthman, Zubayr initially supported Ali but later opposed him, leading to his death in the Battle of the Camel in 656 CE. Sunni tradition honours him as a promised paradise inhabitant, while Shia views are more critical.
