He hailed from the region of Rayy in northern Iran and was related to the notable hadith scholar Abu Hatim al-Rāzī. Renowned for his strong memory and reliability, he played a significant role in the transmission and teaching of hadith. He taught many prominent scholars of his time and contributed to the preservation of Islamic knowledge. He died in Rayy in 878 CE.
