The Parse & Paraphrase Method
This method — used by classical scholars for centuries — trains you to decode verses independently. For each verse:
- Parse — identify every word's root, pattern, and grammatical function.
- Paraphrase — construct your own translation from the parts.
- Compare — check against established translations and tafsir.
- Reflect — note nuances that translations can't capture.
Start with shorter, well-known verses (beginner level) and gradually work through more complex structures. Consistency matters more than speed.
