The Parse & Paraphrase Method

This method — used by classical scholars for centuries — trains you to decode verses independently. For each verse:

  1. Parse — identify every word's root, pattern, and grammatical function.
  2. Paraphrase — construct your own translation from the parts.
  3. Compare — check against established translations and tafsir.
  4. Reflect — note nuances that translations can't capture.

Start with shorter, well-known verses (beginner level) and gradually work through more complex structures. Consistency matters more than speed.
