mishkat_al_masabih:4207وَعَنْ عَلِيٍّ رَضِيَ اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ: نَهَانِي رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسلم إِن أَتَخَتَّمَ فِي إِصْبَعِي هَذِهِ أَوْ هَذِهِ قَالَ: فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَى الْوُسْطَى وَالَّتِي تَلِيهَا. رَوَاهُ مُسْلِمٌ
‘Ali, pointing to the middle finger and the one next it, said, “God’s messenger forbade me to wear a signet-ring on this finger of mine or on this.” Muslim transmitted it.
